I bought this book while on my getaway to Wyoming...besides the honey, this was my other souvenir. Tana took me to a natural food store in Cody, and we spent over an hour perusing the shelves. One of my favorite parts was the book section, and I spotted this book right away. (other books on my wish list..."How to Raise a Healthy Child in Spite of Your Doctor", and "A Consumer's Dictionary of Food Additives") I have been trying to make the shift over from chemical based cleaning products to natural cleaning products for a while...mostly because I don't want to expose my family to the toxins in the products (in the air or on the things they touch) but also because of the environmental impact. The author of this book notes that "168 tons of household cleaners are released into kitchen and bathroom drains every year...the EPA characterizes the typical American household as 'the number one violator of chemical waste per capita'".  Since I'm trying to not be a typical American household in many other areas, this was one way I thought we could save money, simplify our life, and maintain a healthy home environment.
Here's her recipe for cleaning mirrors...
1 1/2 cups vinegar
1/2 cup water
8 drops citrus essential oil of your choice (you can find these online for cheaper then most health food stores I've found...you can order with friends and save on shipping!)
(Lemon essential oil is antibiotic, antifungal, antiviral, and antibacterial!)
I mixed up mine in an old glass cleaner bottle...this is also my all purpose cleanser for Josiah to use. He gets a kick out of using "chemicals" and I can give him a rag and his bottle of "chemicals" and he'll clean spots off the kitchen floor for me!
Let me know if you have any natural cleaning recipes that you use and like!

This sounds wonderful!!! I have always wanted to try some (mainly because my body doesn't like the chemicls or the very strong smell...that should say something!!) But always felt overwhelmed and didn't know where to start. I will have to search this book on amazon!
Right now I am in the process of learning how to plan meals and I like to take one new adventure/leaning process at a time so I don't feel overwhelmed and so I can really get it into a groove, so this might have to wait a bit.
I am almost out of window cleaning solution, so I will have to save my bottle!! =)
Oh, and I just made baby wipe solution a few days ago and it was very simple! )(but I don't think jackson's bum likes it ,so I will have to try one of the many other combinations!)
Good to have you posting again!
I always love hearing how to do things that are better for our families! =) And I like that this one can be great for the budget too!!!

we've also been using vinegar for just about everything. We're going to try it outside on the weeds as well, apparently full strength is deadly for dandys! Have you tried that yet?

We attempted to thwart the armies (yes plural) of ants trying to invade our house with home remedies, which definitely slowed them down, then bought store baits, which did nothing and are now employing the help of a natural exterminator whose clients are daycares and various museums and kids places around the Portland area....we're hopeful it will work! I gave in when I took a break to sit on the couch and realized my earlier cup of tea was a cup of ants sitting on an ant coffee table!!!! Aaauuugggghhh!!! At that point I will pretty much pay anything to have them gone.
